Only once, I think, does Meyer go too far. As Spock’s coffin is wrapped in the Federation flag, and Kirk speaks the funeral oration, our eyes catch sight of Scotty puffing out his cheeks to play the bagpipes. Every time I have seen this in the cinema, the audience has guffawed. It must have something to do with his face.
